How can I get my cat to take a tablet?

One of the most frustrating things for cat owners is getting their cat to take a pill. By the time it is all said and done, you probably feel like taking a pill to knock out the headache you acquired from having to hold your breath. The good news is that there are tricks to getting your cat to take that tablet without you feeling like you ran a marathon.

Here are some tips to help you out:

• Crush the tablet and put it in your pet’s food. This is something that works well with wet food. If your cat still turns away from the food, go ahead and let them do so. They may eat when they are hungry enough. You can also skip out on the next feeding completely so that they won’t refuse the food later.
• Some cats love fresh fish. If you have some, that is the perfect opportunity to give them their medication via the fish.

• You can try the method of putting the tablet in their mouth and holding their mouth closed until they swallow. While this method is not necessarily preferred since someone can get hurt, it can work. You may want to wear a padded suit if your cat is not declawed.

• If your cat loves freshly cooked chicken, then that is another opportunity to administer the medication. You know what your cat likes, so use that information to figure out the best way to get them to take the tablet.
