What are the required vaccinations for cats?

When you get a new cat, you need to be sure it is protected health-wise through preventative vaccinations. For the health of your cat, the vaccinations necessary are for the prevention of Rabies, the Feline Calicivirus or FCV, Panleukopenia virus or distemper and Feline herpes virus. Distemper, FCV and the herpes virus are typically started when your kitten is about 8-10 weeks old and repeated at 12-14 weeks and a year old. These vaccines are then repeated every three years. Rabies is given when a cat is about 3-4 months old and repeated every year (or every three years, if you choose that option.) Please consult your vet about this.
