Why do cats hiss?

If you hear a cat hiss, it is similar to an alarm. The sound is supposed to be intimidating and imitate the sound of one of the most intimidating creatures in the wild – the snake. Cats sometimes hiss at other cats as a way to communicate and establish their role. Most often this hissing sound is just a warning, whether at you or another cat. Do not intervene between two cats. If your cat, young or old, hisses at you for whatever reason, it is best that you ignore it. Walk away from your cat at that moment. The cat needs to learn that the hissing is not an acceptable behavior. In no time, it will learn that hissing gains no attention, especially for no apparent reason.
