The Affenpinscher is a family dog always wanting to be in the midst of things. Unlike other breeds this breed is not as prone for independence. This is not a “leave-alone” for a long period of time breed. They have been reported as being excellent at problem solving and figuring things out. This makes them easy to train for complex tricks and for regular routines. Although a welcoming addition to any family with their playful and mischievous nature caution must be taken around small children.

This is only due to the fact that they can be possessive of their toys, bedding, bones and their food. This is a natural guarding instinct of this breed. However, with any breed, training of your pet and teaching your children respect of their pet this is one obstacle that can be overcome.
