Top 5 Breeds Of Dogs To Own

If you are looking to own a dog as a pet, the decision of which type of dog you are going to make your companion is one that you should not take lightly. Not all dogs are created equal, and they all have different needs, requirements and can be interacted with in many different ways. Based on research done by the American Kennel Club, here are the top 5 breeds you should consider when looking to make a new best friend.

Labrador Retriever

The Labrador retriever has been in the top spot as most popular dog to own for several years now. There are many reasons for this. The main reason is how loyal and lovable they are with their masters. Labs can be ideal family dogs since they get along really well with the elderly and the young ones in the house. They can also be used as hunting dogs given their great ability to be trained and their desire to please. These dogs are also used as seeing eye dogs, rescue dogs and narcotic detection dogs. Take into consideration that they do shed seasonally and you must groom them on a regular basis.

German Shepherd

The German Shepherd is widely known as a great police and military dog, due to how dependable they are and their incredible strength. They are strong and fearless, but friendly and fun-loving. The German Shepherd is an extremely loyal dog, and it does great with kids. Having one around the house will definitely make you feel safer. Regular grooming and exercising are required.

Yorkshire Terriers

“Yorkies” may be small, but their personalities are huge. They are extremely energetic and curious, they love to interact with people on a regular basis, and they require a certain amount of attention. They can live in any type of surrounding, as they can easily adapt and they don’t require a lot of exercise. Do remember that Yorkshire Terriers will require your attention more than others, and their energy may overwhelm some people.

Beagles are extremely friendly dogs with great personalities. They come in two different heights, one being 13-inches and the other 15-inches. They also come in a wide range of colors, including red and white. They are great family pets since they are so friendly. They are also comfortable being around other animals and humans, so if you have other type of pets in the house, the beagle would be a great choice to consider. They are very curious and can be very silly at times. They do require daily activity and attention, but due to their small size they can be easily carried and are very easy to groom.

Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever is a highly dependable and loyal dog. They are extremely smart and have an innate desire to please their masters. For this reason they have been great hunting and rescue dogs. Retrievers are very active and have a lot of energy, so they must be exercised on a daily basis. They do shed quite a bit, so regular grooming is a requirement. Golden Retrievers are a joy to have around; they will become a very close and loving member of any family.

These are the top 5 breed of dogs you should consider to own as a pet. Of course, choosing a dog that fits you has a lot to do to finding a dog that not only fits your personality, but also your lifestyle. Do some more thorough research and you will be sure to find the perfect best friend to hangout with.
